Responsibilities of Leaders and Members of USB Groups
The following lists of responsibilities should help group leaders and members achieve harmony in their meetings.
Duties of a USB Group Coordinator/Leader (some duties may be delegated)
a. To obtain authorization for the group from headquarters, and provide information for posting in the List of USB Groups (USB Groups section of the What One Can Do page).
b. To manage an e-mail account for the group.
c. To view their position as an opportunity to serve.
d. To decide who may be members of the leader’s group.
e. To maintain compliance with USB requirements and guidelines (volume Appendix D and Code of Conduct) in all USB activities the group undertakes.
f. To give the highest priority to promoting a harmonious and spiritual atmosphere at USB group meetings.
g. To arrange and announce the places, times, and activities of USB group meetings. Where appropriate, to also establish a program or schedule, homework assignments (if any), and to provide adequate advance notice.
h. To confine discussions at USB meetings to USB topics and matters.
i. To be supportive of the stated principles and purposes of the USB.
j. To submit brief quarterly reports of group activities to headquarters, with copies of any group-prepared materials.
k. To not divulge personal information about group members without their permission.
l. To ask group members if they would be willing to be contacted by people seeking information about USB groups.
m. To advertise the existence and type(s) of USB group(s) they lead for people who may be seeking them (e.g., on the Web, in periodicals, with other groups, at headquarters).
n. To consider offering “correspondence” participation to isolated individuals.
o. To recognize that each group will tend to develop its own “character,” and to happily refer anyone to other USB groups if they so wish.
p. To encourage and assist the formation of other USB groups. To network with other USB groups, regional (if any) and worldwide headquarters, via the Internet, etc. (We plan to provide guidance for this.)
q. To strive for desirable qualities, including those we discuss on this site.
Responsibilities of a USB Group Member
1. To try to build and maintain harmony in the group at all times.
2. To help the group leader run group meetings in a pleasant, orderly manner, and to helpfully remind him or her of things possibly overlooked. If able, to assist the group leader with certain duties.
3. To confine discussions at USB meetings to USB topics and business and to not name sources when mentioning the teachings of others.
4. To comply with USB requirements and guidelines (volume Appendix D and Code of Conduct) in all USB activities.
5. To be supportive of the stated principles and purposes of the USB.
6. To not divulge personal information about other members without their permission.
7. To be aware that increasing understanding leads to an increasing responsibility to share and serve.
8. To inform the group leader if the member is willing to be contacted by potential members seeking information about USB groups, and what personal information about the member the leader may release. And to do likewise, if the member is willing to correspond with or otherwise help distant USB members.
9. To recognize that each group will tend to develop its own “character,” and to happily refer anyone to other USB groups if they so wish.
